Monroe county has been hit hard during the coronavirus pandemic.

County officials held a ceremony at the government complex in amory to remember monroe county residents who lost their life to the coronavirus.

(jason sullivan- monroe county veterans service officer) "everyone knows someone that had the virus, is still sick from the virus or has gone on to be with the lord from the virus."

Jason sullivan, the monroe county veterans service officer, says the coronavirus is very tragic for monroe county.

An american flag from washington dc was presented to county officials wednesday morning.

This flag is to honor those families that have lost loved ones from the coronavirus.

"it hit me when i knew someone that died of the coronavirus, i said we really need to take a look at this thing."

According the the mississippi state department of health 29 people have died in monroe county from the coronavirus.

"most of those folks are elderly and there is so much wisdom that comes from them, that's where we gain all of our wisdom."

The ceremony ended with local music artist, leah rose, singing the national anthem nat sound (willy weddle- trent kelly's office) "long live the flag and fly it high and god will bless and god will unite."
