7-year-old wild tusker found dead in northern India

A seven-year-old male elephant was found dead within the premises of an agricultural university in Uttarakhand, north India.

The tusker was found on the research plot of the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Pantnaga on July 1.

Upon discovering the elephant's corpse, locals immediately informed the forest department.

Footage shows officials from Terai Eastern Forest Division inspecting the animal and circumstances under which the elephant may have died.

Forest Officer Nitish Mani Tripathi stated that since all vital organs of the mammal are intact, and the tusks are not missing, the cause of death would appear to be natural.

The cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination is conducted.
