A law student in Indonesia decided to hold his own graduation ceremony on top of the active volcano Mount Marapi, as coronavirus restrictions had cancelled the normal graduation.

Muhammad Nasir, a student at Andalas University (UNAND) Padang, West Sumatra, travelled with several companions to the foot of the mountain by motorbike on June 29.

The group then began climbing the slopes by night and arriving at the peak before dawn the next day (June 30).

Arriving at the top, Nasir immediately searched for an internet connection, and was connected to the Campus Zoom Meeting application with Andalas University, using a laptop and cellphone.

Nasir also said that the decision taken by the university to hold online-only graduations was the right and wise step.

He advised all students who performed graduations in the pandemic era especially in UNAND and all students who would be graduated, that basically however the implementation of the graduation, it would have the same meaning.
