Study: New Version Of Coronavirus Is More Infectious

On Thursday, researchers reported that a global study suggests that a new form of coronavirus has spread from Europe to the US.

CNN reports that the new mutation, which they're calling G614, is more common, and more infectious.

But, researchers say that the good news is that the new mutation does not seem to make people sicker than earlier variations of the virus.

It has the same severity as the first version.

The new mutation affects the spike protein, which is the structure the virus uses to enter the cells.

Researchers are investigating whether this could impact if the virus can be controlled by a vaccine.

Lawrence Young, a professor of medical oncology at the UK's University of Warwick says, "There is a hope that as SARS-CoV-2 infection spreads, the virus might become less pathogenic."
