Farmers hold tractor protest in central London over agricultural bill

Farmers drove tractors through central London on Wednesday (July 8) to protest the UK Agriculture Bill.

Farmers argue that the Bill will remove British animal and environmental standards for food and the UK market will be opened to low-quality goods.

Activists from Animal Rebellion & Animal Save Movement - including climate change activist Mr Broccoli - also joined the protest.

An A&E doctor who had come to the protest dressed as pineapple said the Bill "is opening up our borders to imports of food which is going to be way more harmful - not just to people but to the environment".

A veterinary surgeon also said that the COVID-19 pandemic was "literally caused by exploiting animals" and the Bill is "just another disaster waiting to happen." The Bill is set to be voted on in the Lords next week.
