Governor Brown discusses new COVID-19 mandates

The governor spoke with NewsWatch 12 about new requirements and what to expect going forward.

The omy.

I spoke with the governor today about what potentially comes next in the fight against the virus.

Governor brown.

When you first instituted the increased restrictions back around the 4th of july weekend, you were concerned about people going out there and perhaps spreading the virus.

Are you seeing expected increases as a result of that holiday weekend or how the numbers not gone as high as you were feared?

They might.

Well, certainly seeing increases the virus around the state, um, in both urban and rural communities.

That's why i instituted two, um, modifications, number one, uh, asking, ordering.

Oregonians to wear face coverings when they're out side and they can't maintain six foot of distance.

And the other, the thing is we know that a huge portion of the new cases we're seeing are coming from informal, get togethers, social gatherings.

Um, we're asking oregonians to limit those.

To 10 indoors.

Um, and i, my option is to say, when in doubt, move it out, move it outside.

We know the virus is much likely to transmit in the beautiful outdoors of oregon.

So as you look forward, what sort of red flags will you be looking for?

Or what kind of green lights will you be looking for?

Whether or not we'll need more or fewer?

That's a really great question.

Assuming we can start to level off the number of infections across the state.

Hopefully.

Um, i won't need to take any further restrictive actions.

Unfortunately, things keep going up like we're seeing, uh, in terms of increased, uh, infections across the state.

Um, we'll be taking a look at, um, businesses we're working and meeting with a number of sectors in the business community.

To institute additional safety precautions.

And, um, obviously we see in states like california and texas, they've had to close down bars and limit, uh, restaurants to outdoor dining.

I'm hoping it were again that, uh, everyone would be wearing their face coverings and that we are limiting our indoor gatherings to 10 people or less, and that we can get the transmission rates down.

I don't want to take these more serious, uh, actions.

When you first instituted the initial, uh, sort of reintroduction of restrictions, southern oregon county specifically were not impacted by those that obviously has changed as you look to the future.

Do you see a possibility of different counties being hit with different restrictions or being released from those restrictions as numbers turnaround?

That's a really great question.

I just have to say that southern oregon, as a whole, as a region has done a phenomenal job.

And keeping the transmission of the virus down.

I know that we're ago, neons both young and old have made tremendous sacrifices to prevent the transmission of the virus.

Um, particularly in southern oregon, uh, to your neighbors, to your community members, to your family members.

I just want to encourage everyone, uh, to, uh, make sure that you're wearing a face covering when you go into.

Uh, a public setting.

Um, if you're in the outdoors and you can't maintain six feet distance, watch your physical distance.

Yeah.

Keep, uh, uh, six feet, uh, from folks that are not, uh, with you, uh, not of your own household, but also to wash, wash, wash your hands.

If we do all of these actions, it is my hope that we won't need to take more restrictive action.

But of course, if we need to, we're looking at working with the counties individually.

Um, and, uh, very, uh, supportive of actions that, uh, local jurisdictions are taking.

For example, in certain counties that are on the watch list, we are assisting with, uh, increased testing capacity.

We're making sure that they have access to additional staff for contact tracing as they need it.

So we're he here through the
