After 5 day hiatus... protesters marched through the streets of lane county this evening.
This time taking demonstrations to the santa clara neighborhood in eugene.
Thank you for joining us, i'm chynna greene.
Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy is live in eugene and connor there were talks of marching on the beltline, did that happen?
Chynna get on the beltline, but that did not happen.
Eugene police showed up in full force to stop protesters from marching on the highway.
Officers closed both the on and off ramps here at river road.
But protesters still marched in this part of eugene.
Take a look at this footage from sky 9.
You can see police officers guarding the entrance to the beltline at river road.
Here is another ariel shot of the protesters.
At one point there were nearly 200 people here marching down river road.
The protesters marched demanding police reform and the end to systemic racism.
I just hope again that we can bring about the change we want to see and i hope its continued done peacefully and people can start to see that this is not something we should be afraid of but embracing it the protesters also stopped at certain points and held a moment of silence for the violence happening at the portland protests.
Chynna-- the protests ended back at north eugene high school where they began.
And everything was completely peaceful.
