This has been a long time coming& i was told the csu chancellor timothy white has been talking about adding these new requirements since 20-14.

The california state university board of trustees will now require students to take an ethnic studies or social justice class as part of their general education requirements.

The item was originally brought to the board in may and then like two weeks later the developments across the country related to these issues, with the george floyd killing, it kind of crystalized the importance of these studies in these fields& this measure is the first change to the csu's general education curriculum in 40 years& and one chico state father said it's much needed during this day and age.

I think its' a great idea especially for those who don't have a family background that instills those kind of things& i myself wasn't raised prejudice and i passed that onto my daughter... i don't think she would need a class like that, but others i think it's a great idea&.

According to michael uhlenkamp a spokesperson for c-s-u chancellors' office the classes will range from african american studies, lgbtq, criminal justice and more.

But, the three unit course will not be required until 20-23 if they already have robust ethnic studies programs and these things then their might not be a lot of changes, but it does provide us with some time for faculty to develop courses in these areas and come up with new courses that could potentially cover this..
