Police made five arrests on Tuesday evening (July 28) after dozens of protesters blocked a planned drive-by salute to officers in Whittier, Los Angeles County.
Tense eyewitness video shows an officer tackling a protester from campaign group Heart of Whittier to the ground while other onlookers attempt to help.
Other video online appears to show the protesters being told to back down so the parade could continue, but they refused.
"Get 'em off of him!" one protester can be heard yelling.
"Leave him alone!" another says.
According to local reports, protesters were carrying banners saying, “Abolish the Police" and “Abolish the Police State” and chanting slogans including “No justice, no peace.” Fellow protester Noemi filmed the clip and explained to Newsflare: "A Norwalk Superior Court Judge rejected the City of Whittier’s request for a temporary restraining order against the Heart of Whittier protesters from camping in front of Whittier City Hall.
"Later that evening at around 7pm a group of people came out to start a parade supporting the police department.
The Hearts of Whittier protesters took their stand, five arrests were made and their brutality against the protesters was shown.
They were clearly upset in the way the protesters stopped their parade.
Clearly they didn’t get what they wanted," she continued.
