Over the weekend, The Grand nursing home resident RaeJeen Wallace posted a video that went viral of her speaking out about the alleged horrible way she's been treated.

Care officials and local leaders are weighing in on viral video.

The video shows the grand nursing home resident rajean wallace calling out the nursing home, in rome, for improper care.

And now state senator joe griffo is urging immediate change to the nursing home industry.

News channel 2's brent kearney reports.

"i think we need to see dramatic, substantive, and immediate change in the industry."

State senator joe griffo is introducing a new bill that would allow a patient and their family to install a monitoring device such as alexa, inside a resident's room.

Allowing families to stay connected.

.

None .

None "we have all of these great devices and technolog that's available and there's been a resistance from the nursing home industry.

Using the cover of hipa and things of that nature.

Now i can understand if you're in a joint room that becomes a little challenging, but as far as i know most of them are single occupancy."

Over the weekend, the grand resident rajeen wallace posting a video about the alleged poor quality of care she was recieveing.

The grand responding to those allegations.

"we are doing a full investigation into the allegations that she's made despite the fact that many of them that we know right off the bat are inaccurate.

We're going to do a full investigation and we're going to report to the department of health so that they can do an independent investigation into her allegations as well."

Former nursing home ombudsman martha bundy tells me, allowing the family to check in on residents more frequently would help.

"it would make a big difference.

If they 7 days a week could have some of the residents come sit with them 6 feet apart in the dining room."

Technology senator griffo says is needed, especially now.

"its another means and method of trying to continue that type of communication and also keeping an eye on your loved one.

So i think we need to use new technology.

We use it for everything else.

Why wouldnt we make that available and accessible and find the right way to do it."

The bill will needed to be debated and discussed by the senate and the assembly before it moves forward.
