News 10 nightwatch.

Going back to school during a pandemic is difficult on all families.

But it can be especially challenging for families with children with special needs.

At 5 o'clock...we told you what the "covered bridge special education district" is doing to help.

Now.,, news 10's bri shackelford tells us what one parent is doing and what made her decision final.

Bri.

Today i spoke with tierra mosier.

She's a mother of four ...two of whom have adaptive needs.

One of her childen has autism.

Another has a-d-h-d.

None of her children will go back to school in the fall.

But mosier says she has other options... tierra mosier says her dining room, now looks like a classroom.

"i'm just trying to learn how to teach and to be a better parent."

Mosier plans on homeschooling three of her children.

Her daughter, with autism is going to a-b-a therapy.

It's a special education program for kids like her.

"i just feel like it's a more smaller environment that is more easily monitored than the school."

Meanwhile.

Mosier says she now has more time to focus on her other three kids schooling.

Mosier will have three hour school days for her children starting on september first.

"that's the perk i guess of homeschooling, is that you don't always just have to have your face in a book and sitting at a table.

You can do a homeschooling lesson while cooking luinch."

She has prepared for this by joining facebook groups and reading books.

She ordered several materials off of amazon in preparation for her new year.

She even has non traditional ideas.

""homeschooling also isn't just workbooks and stuff.

We can do field trips like going on a hike and learning about the nature and/or just going out in the front yard."

While this may work for mosier this might not work for all parents.

Mosier says parents should do what they think is the best for their children.

Some she will continue to do herself.

To do herself.

Now... for parents out there who are in a similar situation....mosier suggests reaching out to your doctors or even support groups for help or for advice.
