Purdue Students Approve of University's Reopening Plan

For the first time since the pandemic started today... the university is returning with safety and health protocols related to the protect purdue plan..

News 18's dakota simon is on campus now with reaction from students who attended their first classes since march..

Dakota what did they have to say?

Hey there meredith..

The reaction i received from students this morning was overwhelmingly positive..

As i walked around campus every one that i encountered had a mask on..

And several students i spo with said they felt safe in classrooms..

The protect purdue plan requires all students to wear a mask while inside university buildings and specifically while in class..

It's important to mention that instructors across campus are not incentivising showing up to class in person..

Especially if they aren't feeling well..

And every classroom has been rearranged in an effort to maintain social distancing..

Sam wyss and morgan smith compared their experience this morning to their peers at other schools... and they commended purdue's extensive efforts to allow in- person learning..

Morgan -- most of my friends go to ohio state or ohio university, and they said that like their schools really haven't done as much, and they are trying to focus more on the online portion as opposed to the in person classes.

So i am really appreciative that purdue has decided to focus on making sure we get in person as much as physcially possible.

Sam -- compared to other schools, i have friends that go to other colleges, and relatively speaking i feel that purdue has done an excellent job compared to others.

Again students do have the option to learn from home if they choose..

And all courses have an online element for additional course work..

That's according to the indiana state department of health.

Isdh is also
