Katie... george... there was actually some broad consensus during this roundtable about what needs to be done to improve the relationship between the people who work in the building behind me... the rochester law enforcement center... and communities across southeastern minnesota.

A common theme that came up time and again was the need to focus on investment in communities.

Most... if not all of the participants... agreed that so much of what happens on the ground... is a result of legislative action or inaction.

There were calls to fund early education... mental health programs... and other initiatives more comprehensive ly.

One prominent official who echoed that message was roger peterson... the former chief of police at the rochester police department.

He says the idea that you can fund law endorcement and not everything else in the community doesn't hold any water.
