A lot of progress has been made as crews have battled the blaze day and night -- to make sure things don't get out of hand.

Marcus: "we've got this fire under control."

The*goal is to reach*100 percent containment by the end of their shift tonight.

A week in -- i asked officials how they're holding up.

Marcus: "the direction from the leadership was really work slowly, work methodically, work safely, we're working in some very difficult terrain."

And their strategy seems to have worked as community members feel some peace, after days of wondering what's to come.

Joseph: "it's looking really good.

Looks like they got the fire under control.

They did a great job keeping on fire away from here."

Bridge: crews tell me that it's a positive feeling to have such a high level of appreciation from the community.

And residents say that sense of closeness is helping everyone get through this side by side.

There was nobody who didn't want to help.

There wasn't anyone who wasn't worried about what was going on in mapleton.

She's a mother of three and says she's lucky to live on the opposite side of the river.

But she has friends who live on hadsall creek road.

Millie: "you're just thinking about all those people who are potentially losing their homes.

The school district that could potentially lose the school, the friends across the river who could potentially lose their homes if this fire got out of control but the firefighters did an incredible job."

Leadership will be handed off to the local district monday at 7 a-m.
