Heavy rain causes flooding in Phuket, Thailand

Roads were flooded following heavy rain on the island of Phuket in southern Thailand on Thursday (September 10).

Residents woke up the deluge with thunder and lightning crashing overhead on the popular holiday destination.

Footage shows how flash floods filled the roads with rain water as residents battled through the deluge in the morning rush hour.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, the Philippines, as well as China and Japan in the Far East, are at the peak of the annual rainy season that sees regular tropical storms until cooler weather arrives towards the end October.
