North Girls Golf Swinging For A Big Season

Schools... getting to the state state tournament is considered a successful season... but at north..

The expectation is to win the state title.

Last year the lady huskies made another return trip to prairie view golf club... but they ultimately came up short.

This 2020 squad is hungry..

And they tell our very own andrew garcia..

It's time to finish the job.

Playing sports during a pandemic has been a challenge for some student athletes, but for a sport like golf that naturally socially distances players, there are only a few differences.

Faith-i'm really excited that we get to play and especially it just takes your mind off all the craziness in the world and it's really not too different because of all the social distancing already in place.

So, i'm just really excited we get to do our season.

Chloe- we do a lot of teamwork together so we are all working on one thing at a time.

But now we kind of have to split up a little bit and we have to split up groups while we play also and we also have to do a lot of mandatory covid requirements that make it a little bit less fun i guess.

The north girls golf team so far has posted a record of 11-1 and a big reason why is defending state champion faith johnson, and the junior has no plans to surrender her crown anytime soon.

Ken-faith is one of the best players in the state and she's on a team that we have a lot of good players in the state and the other four girls that are playing in the starting lineup, they could be number ones for a lot of teams in the state of indiana.

Faith- going into prairie view, it's basically about, are you hitting the fairways and are you hitting the greens and especially the second day i did a really good job of hitting all the greens.

So, i think if we all just all go into the mindset of hitting those greens and hitting all those fairways, we'll do a really good job.

For the 4x state champion huskies, being one of the top ranked teams in the state means nothing and all that matters is adding to the trophy case at the end of the season.

-chloe- we really need to be consistent with our scores this season and not be random 80's, random 90's we need to stick the 70's this season if we're really going to be in contention to win state.

Faith- i know we were disappointed coming in second last year.

It was almost like we didn't expect it.

We came into the tournament thinking and almost knowing we were going to win so, we were taken aback.

We learned that you can't put yourself in a place until you earn it so we're really earning our spot this year.
