Blue River family loses everything in fire

A little more than a week ago, Shana Jewel lived in Blue River about 5 miles east of Vida in a beautiful riverfront home that is now gone.

As you heard at the top of the show... hundreds of families have been left without homes -- destroyed by the holiday farm fire.

Kezi nine news reporter emma jerome spoke to one of woman today... about her memories... and the strength her community will need to rebuild.

"it was fun to live there" a little more than a week ago, shana jewel lived in blue river about 5 miles east of vida... in a beautiful riverfront home.

-- that home is gone "it's gone... it's flat... nothing left but the rock" and now left with no home -- housed in a eugene hotel -- she says she feels a need to help others.

Emma jerome: " shana jewel lost it all and now all she wants to do- all she can do is pay it forward " "i would do anything" she says blue river is a community that feels more like a family.

"it's like family" it's that spirit that's motivating her to lend a helping hand even when she could use one herself.

"i can sit here and go over 15 years of data, but it will just make me sick and make me sad... so the only way to move past that is to pay it forward" she's been helping out with the red cross and talking to other families who have lost everything.

She says in time she will heal.

"but to rebuild my home?

I don't know..."

For now she says she feels blessed to have her family... friends... and her cat..
