gambling parlors... story at 5p
new standard bred tracks proposed
C1 3 standardbred racing and slot machines to southeastern kentucky.
The tracks announced the filing of an application for a racing license and construction of the tracks in corbin and williamsburg.
All of this has to be approved by the state horse racing commission.
And, there's another aspect at play in this plan.
The legality of the slot machines...which the industry calls 'historical racing machines'...is now before the state supreme court.
The conservative group, the family foundation, sued a decade ago...saying the machines are not pari-mutuel wagering and as a result are an illegal form of gambling in kentucky.
The industry didn't wait for a ruling...and the machines are in use at tracks and gambling parlors across the state, including at the red mile in lexington.
