Country crosses 56-lakh mark with 83,347 new infections

Country crosses 56-lakh mark with 83,347 new infections

India's COVID-19 tally crossed 56-lakh mark on September 23 with a spike of 83,347 new infections.

Total COVID-19 cases in the country stand at 56,46,011.

Currently, there are 9,68,377 active cases.

With 1,085 deaths in last 24 hours, the death toll rises to 90,020.

Indian Council of Medical Research reported that 6,62,79,462 samples were tested up to September 22.

Further, the Health Ministry informed that India's COVID-19 testing capacity surges to over 12 lakh daily tests.

With 55,838 new cases, India's COVID tally crosses 77-lakh mark

With 55,838 new COVID-19 cases, the virus has now infected 77,06,946 people in India on October 22. As many as 702 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 1,16,616. Total active cases stands 7,15,812, after a decrease of 24,278 in last 24 hours. Total cured cases are 68,74,518 with 79,415 new discharges in last 24 hours. According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), total 9,86,70,363 samples tested for COVID-19 up to 21th October. Of these, 14,69,984 samples were tested yesterday.

IIT- Kharagpur's 'COVIRAP' testing device gets approval from ICMR

Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur researchers claimed that 'COVIRAP,' the diagnostic device developed by them has been successfully validated for its efficacy in COVID-19 detection by ICMR. The IIT said that various commercial units have already approached them for technology licensing. "ICMR has granted certification for this COVID Diagnostic Test after rigorous testing with patient samples," said research team. The test has been designed to be easy to conduct and affordable as well and can produce results within 1 hour. This method implements a highly reliable and accurate molecular diagnostic procedure that can be conducted in ultra-low-cost portable device unit developed by IIT Kharagpur research team. The results are rendered via a custom-made mobile application for dissemination.
