Driver falls asleep before crashing on Route 49

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, a driver fell asleep before veering off the road and crashing on Route 49 Friday morning.

You're looking at the westbound lanes of route 49.....at 7:30 am.

The oneida county sheriff's office, the investigating agency, says a car veered off the road....near the cavanaugh road exit....and went airborne.

When it came to a stop...it caught fire.

The sheriff's office says the driver fell asleep.

His passenger suffereed significant injuries to his hip and ribs.

The driver was ticketed.

Crash number two happened in the eastbound lane.... directly across the street from the first one.

It appears a car and a flatbed truck - collided.

State police are investigating this incident.

One person was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Route 49 is back open tonight....in both directions.
