Teachers at douglas high school are accused of staging a "sick out" last week over coronavirus safety fears.

Right now, the school is open and the teachers are back... and kezi 9 news reporter evita garza explains how the school is moving forward like many school districts& bringing back in-person learning hasn been easy for the winston dillard school district.

And these changes haven been easy on parents either.

Phoner:?i felt like there was no reason for students to not go back on campus and teachers shouldn be there to learn, even though we have all of those protections?

Right now, douglas county does not meet the guidelines to reopen schools.

That because of a recent spike in covid-19 cases.

But parents say the district planned to reopen anyway.

That caused more than a dozen teachers to go on strike by calling out of freshman orientation last week.?i don want to downplay their fears of covid or of the pandemic, but i think the school had a really good plan in place?

However, board member brian west tells me they met with the oregon department of education over the weekend.

They were given an exception because theye considered a rural school district& which means they fall under another set of rules.

Now, the school is open under a hybrid learning plan.

Im excited they were willing to entertain the conversation, i excited they were willing to let our school district to reopen?

1:04 evita:?douglas hs normally has 360 students enrolled each year.

However, only half of those students will actually be learning in the classroom... while the other half will still be online?

I reached out to other school officials about the sick out& but they did not get back to me.

In winston,
