Is two people in louisiana have died from hurricane delt's aftermath.

We just learned from the louisiana department of health that a 70 year old woman from iberia parish died in a fire likely caused by a natural gas leak following damage from the hurricane.

The other one was an elderly man in st.

Martinville who died from a generator fire.

At this time the fire marshalls office tell me the homeowner had a generator placed in his shed when he discovered it was out of fuel they believeve he re fueled it while hot.

It then caught on fire and he was trapped inside.

The state fire marsha's office is reminding residents to keep safety in mind when utilizing portable generators.

Some of those tips include.

Do not place generators inside of any structure including garages, carports and sheds.

Place the generator at least 20 feet away from your home, down-wind away from open doors, windows and vents.

Before refueling, turn the generator off and allow it to cool for 15-20 minutes.never try to power the house wiring by plugging the generator into a wall outlet instead, use a heavy-duty, outdoor extension cord to plug appliances into generators.do not use in rain or wet conditions.have a fire extinguisher nearby.and last but not least have a carbon monoxide monitor for your home.

Tonight: 72, cleartomorrow: 88, hot and sunnytuesday: low: 69 high: 83, mostly sunnywe have a much deserved week of sunshine on the way.

High pressure currently in the gulf will make for hot conditions once again for tomorrow with highs getting very close to 90 which is well above normal for this time of year.

The high will give way to an advancing cold front as we go into tuesday.

This should cut back temperatures slightly with highs only in the lower 8's which is more normal for this time of year.

We see a much stronger front will push through late thursday and into friday morning.

This will make for some very comfortable weather with lows in the 5's and highs expected to be in the 7's with sunshine continuing into next weekend.

The tropics look to remain quiet in the short term.

There is a tropical wave moving into the caribbean but most model guidance has this falling apart.

We will need to keep an eye on things though as some models are hinting at some activity about a week from now popping up.

The cajun navy is still rescuing peeople trapped in thier homes from hurricane delat in lake charles.

The rescue and relief group has been on the ground in the state since hurricane "laura" hit in august.

The're helping hard-hit residents get back to their homes, and rescuing people stranded from severe flooding.

"shively says: "what have you seen anything specific?

People are trapped."gaudet says: "people are trapped by floodwater.

Ther's debris tha's keeping them from being able to get out of their homes as well, or they do't have vehicles to travel out of the area with."they plan to be in lake charles for six months, helping to clean up.

The clean-up is just beginning., with it being the second major storm to hit the region in six weeks.our correspondent caroline shively took a ride with the cajun navy to survey that damage in lake charles,..

What came ashore as hurricane "delta" weakened to a tropical storm by saturday, but, the storm had already left behind a path of damage in its wake in southwest louisiana, and knocked out power to nearly 600-thousand people across the state.edwards says: "this was a very serious, very large and powerful storm that produced significant amounts of damage."

"delta" following a similar path taken by hurricane "laura" in late august.edwards says: "will be very difficult to differentiate between what was caused by hurricane laur' and what was caused by hurricane'delta'" "delta" first made landfall in creole, louisiana, friday night as a category two.

40 miles inland, parts of lake charles, louisiana, were still underwater saturday afternoon with six-week-old debris from "laura" floating down the street.

Hastings says: "the first storm that hit was laura' which was all wind, and this on's all water."

The cajun navy has been in lake charles for both storms. the volunteers took fan boats out on the flooded roads to rescue people who were stranded, and help others get back to their homes.paz says: "we got floods, so, gonna make it through."

For much of the country, wha's left of "delta" will be a passing rain storm, but for the people here in calcasieu parish, first with "laura" and now with "delta," this is absolutely devastating, and will take months, if not years, to recover from.

In lake charles, louisiana, 'm caroline shively, fox news.

"buzzzzzzz" and here in acadiana crews have been hard at work , clearing debris, downed power lines and trees from the roadways .because of those trees many are still without power here in lafayette.

In fact lafayette utilities system is reporting, as of this evening more than 12,000 lus customers are still without power.

Because of the debris and lack of power some towns in lafayette parish are still under a curfew tonight.the municipalities of broussard, carencro, duson, and youngsville will be under a curfew beginning at 8:00 p.m.

Tonight and ending at 6:00 a.m.

Monday.and lafayette mayor-president josh guillory is strongly advising residents to stay off roadways unless travel is absolutely necessary.

Several electrical and debris removal crews remain active across the parish and it is critical they be allowed to continue recovery operations without the risk of putting residents or themselves in danger.

And with those power outages ..

Many traffic signals are not working casuing issues for drivers.

The dotd says that 75% of their traffic signals were without power- statewide crews are working to get the signals back in operation - but the amount of wind gusts from the hurricane caused a lot of the signals poles to be turned to the side and twisted our of place.

W're still working on getting power to the signals, so we do encourage the traveling public if they approach an intersection and there is no power to that signal, we strongly encourage them to treat that intersection as a four-way stop.

3 also a large portion of students across acadiana wo't be going to school monday after school officials inspected damage to campuses, here is a list of some of the parishes that wont have shcool tomorrow,.

Officials with the individual schools will decide if more days are needed by tuesday.

But at ul all classes will go on as scheduled.

A plan to make up the missed class day will be released next week.

Ands students who arent able to go to class are told to reach out to thier instructors.

3 as we look to clean up after hurricane delta we have some inportant information youll want to know if youre a customer with republic services--your trash and recycling will resume monday.

Since pick up was suspended friday due to delta....collection will be delayed by a day for the remainder of the week as you can see on your screen.

Customer who have questions can contact republic services.

And the city of new iberia is working on debris removal beginning monday.they ask that you place debris at the edge of your property away from obstructions like mail boxes, fire hydrants and water meters.

Round one of cleanup will focus on large trees with other debris to follow.

Hurricane delta also making a hard hit to our blood banks.

The storm has forced many blood drive cancellations and the closures of donation centers... officials estimate the've lost about 400 anticipated donations.

All blood types are needed right now.

Hours have been extended for the vitalant center here in lafayette from 7 to 2.

The now coming up after the break louisiana governor went and assessed the damage that hurricane delta left in her path we will have more on what he says.

Louisiana governor john bel edwards gave an update on the aftermath of hurricane delta .

The governor said no fatalities have been reported during the storm so far and crews are working to restore power to some 600-thousand people.

He also took an aerial tour of storm damage in southwest louisiana.

"but it does appear that the damage to the infrastructure, especially the transmission lines, those large towers, much, much less significant this time than the first time.

And if tha's true, w're gonna see restoration happen much more quickly.

We especially think tha's gonna be the case in north louisiana, and then as you move back down towards south, southwest louisiana, i's obviously gonna take a little longer."

I's an understatement to say the gulf has been hard on lake charles this hurricane season.

Weather channel meteorologist tevin wooten has more on the impact lake sharles felt from delta.

Take a look at this footage the area experienced rising water, with some areas being flooded from all the torrential rain.

According to the national hurricane center, strong winds spreading inland across the state friday with "delta" sustaining winds of 80 miles-per-hour.

And yesterday i was in crowly to take a look at just how bad delta impacted the city.

Fire crews here in crowley have been very busy trying to clear debris falling trees like this one here down powerlines so people can move through the area safely and hopefully get their electricity back onnatsthe town of crowley woke up today with trees fallen in almost every neighborhoodcrowley fire captain craig walker"tha's because laura came through just six weeks ago in that loosened up a lot of these trees that have fallen today."

Snapped poles, downed trees damaged buildingsand many people are't supported after hearing the winds last night.

On crowley 'm cassie schirm news 15" unfortuynately in crowley mayor tim monceaux released a statement saying they do not expect electricity to be restored in crowley for a few days.

Circuits in every substation are down as well as the feeders.
