And lane county reports 48 new cases.

As we told you*yesterday -- lane county reported its highest ever single day case count at 82.

And it joined four other counties on the governor's watch list.

This means -- we'll recieve additional resources for at least 3 weeks -- or until we're able to turn these numbers around.

But as kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy shows us -- one specific group doesn't agree with governor brown's comment about them being*partly responsible for the surge.

Zane: "i actually think people are doing pretty well."

There's been 421 covid-19 cases in the university of oregon community since june first.

And 73 cases were reported just this week.

But after the news broke that lane county was placed on the governor's watch list -- partly because of students behaviors -- the reaction from them was across the board.

Zane: "i just think following the protocols for keeping a safe distance and keeping yourself sanitized and clean, that should help.

Health officials said they're having a particularly tough time drilling down the importance of this virus -- to those in the*college-age group.

But -- they're not blaming the university of oregon.

They say -- its students individual actions at social gatherings -- such as off campus parties -- that are spreading this disease.

Bridge: being put on the watch list does not mean the county will be moved back a phase, but it does serve as a clear warning to everyone to not get complacent with following the rules.

One student says many people are dealing with covid fatigue.

Eugene: "i think people have to remember how bad it is.

I think they just got really tired of social distancing and not going to parties and things like that and they just think that if they're not going to dies of coronavirus then they'll be fine."

But agrees with governor brown that it'll take the entire county working together to get these numbers under control -- not just students.

Eugene: "we just have to stay vigilant and remember that a lot of people are at risk that are older and otherwise compromised immune systems. i think we have to think of them first."

Lane county will stay on the watch list for at least three weeks -- and health officials hope we can bend the curve -- like we've done twice already.
