Second wave of coronavirus possible .

More than 26 hundred confirmed deaths.

Health officials here in north alabama are worried that those numbers could keep growing!

Now -- they're warning a second wave of coronavirus could hit our area.

Waay 31's ashley carter is live for us now at huntsville hospital....ashley what are health leaders saying?

The c-e-o of huntsville hospital david spillers told us with the holidays right around the corner and families gathering he is expecting a spike in coronavirus cases.

But he says now that everyone has the tools to slow the spread of the coronavirus...he hopes they use them.

Spillers says if people continue to keep their distance...wear a mask and sanitize he does believe this can continue to help slow the spread....but he knows once people begin to have family gatherings around the holidays it's going to be people will begin to let their guard down -which can then result in a spike of cases.

Spiller says he hopes people still keep safety precautions in mind during the winter months coming up to avoid another shut down "i think if we're smart about how we move forward i think we can keep that from being so bad that we have to look at closures and those types of things.

I really don't think we will have to get there.

I hope we don't have to get there."

Spillers says all it takes is an outbreak at a nursing home or a large gathering to create a spike in cases....so he wanted to emphasize the importance of continuing to wear your mask...sanitizing and keeping at a safe distance from others.
