After being charged with petty larceny.

Her crime?

Stealing flowers off of graves.

Wayne hereford joins us live from belmont with the story of how she was captured.

Officers charged heather renea mayhall of golden with taking flowers from a yoiung man's grave here in belmont memorial cemetary and taking them to ridge cemetary in itawaba county .

I spoke with the police chief and the mother of the man who's grave was robbed about how they found out it was heather mayhall that took the flowers.

"when you take the flowers off of somebody's grave like that , its the last thing that you can do for them..i don't care if it was ten cents that you put on it."

Paula crowe showed me the flowers that were taken from her son's grave monday morning around 830 a.m,.

According to police.

This same arrangement is back on her son jeffrey's roman roberts' grave today thanks her quick thinking.

She says it was not the first time someone took flowers from jeffrey's grave.

Standujp..."paula crowe says that someone has taken the flowers off her son's grave dating back to october 2019.

It happened at least two more times after that."

The last time was this past monday morning.

But paula had suprise for the robber.

She placed a tracking device inside the flower arrangement which led police to the ridge cemetary on ridge road in itawamba county.

Heather renea was arrested at the cemetary with the flowers.

She is charged with petty larceny.

"well it was a long-drawn out she lied to me at first and told me it was a ,she didn't steal the flowers she bought them in red bay alabama.

But i explainecd to her that it was no way she could have purchased the flowers because they had put a tracker on them."

Chief thomas says that mayhall later confessed that she needed the flowers to place on some of her relatives graves because she did not have the money to buy some.

That was of little consolation to paula crowe.

"its everything to you.

...anyone that is doing this needs to stop."

Chief thomas says he could not charge heather renea mayhall with a felony because the crime does not meet that criteria... reporting live in belmont wayne hereford wtva nine news.
