Thank you for staying up with us im jillian smukler.

A small brush fire erupted near 'blaahch-lee' tonight --- causing residents and fire crews to prepare for the worst.

After a historic wildfire season in oregon -- this was a cause of concern for many -- but*thankfully crews have a handle on it.

As kezi 9 news reporter connor mccarthy shows us -- it could've been*much worse.

Connor: "dozens of firefighters from around lane county are still her behind me in blachly trying to put this fire out.

Now fire officials tell if those winds from sunday afternoon kept wiping through the night, this fire could have be a lot worse."

Flames racing up a hill side sunday evening in blachly.

Fire fighters from lake creek... junction city... and the mohwak valley racing*in to keep it from buring out of control.

Officials say the fire grew to about 25 acres with in minutes.... catching the eyes of onlookers driving on horton road... but officials say-- high winds sunday afternoon-- could have been a recpeit for a disaster.

"the winds this afternoon i don't know the actual speed, but i know they were blowing my f250 around the road a little bit, they were really high.

You could feel them and watch the trees blowing, luckily we didn't have any of that by the time we got here."

The fire moved south towards highway 36 but stopped when the winds died down.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Connor: " fire officials say they are going to be out here all night, making sure this fire doesn't grow any larger.

But officials also tell me, they believe they have a handle on this fire.
