Now erin, is there any correlation with a person smoking and potentially getting breast cancer?

Erin- oncology ...: according to breastcancer.org smoking causes a number of diseases and is linked to higher risk of breast cancer in younger premenopausal women.

Research has also shown that there may be a link between very heavy secondhand smoke exposure and breast cancer risk in post- menopausal women.

Smoking can also increase complications from breast cancer treatments such as damage to the lungs from radiation therapy, more difficulty healing after surgery and breast reconstruction, and also a higher risk of blood clots for those patients who are taking hormone replacement therapies.

Amber-host: wow.

So a lot of us know smoking is just not a good thing to do.

The research all indicates it's not healthy for us, but women may not understand that that correlation is right there with breast cancer, and so heavily influenced as well.

Do you have any tips for people that are just trying to quit smoking?

Erin- oncology ...: yes.

We are here to help those ladies and gentlemen who need help to quit smoking.

We offer american lung association freedom from smoking sessions, and those are led by our nurses and certified tobacco treatment specialist miranda harrison and diana .

These are held in either small groups or virtually now we're in 2020 and the pandemic, and these are seven week sessions.

And during these seven weeks we provide the following.

We help them learn to prepare to quit smoking, managing the stress during that time, avoiding weight gain, establishing a quit day, developing skills to maintain a smoke free lifestyle, and how to build a good support system to maintain that smoke free lifestyle.

Our next smoking cessation classes will start in 2021, those will be held through zoom, and to register or find more information about those programs they can call 316-5895.
