Rochester mayor Kim Norton shares her hopes for the next set of city councilors.

With polls closing in just under two hours... rochester residents are voting to decide who will sit on the next city council.

Kimt news three's anthony monzon caught up with rochester mayor kim norton... and has the insight she'd like to share with the next city council.

He joins us live from the olmsted county government center.

Katie... george... there's no doubt we'll be looking at a different council following this election.

Tonight there are three seats up for grabs... with two incumbents choosing not to run for re?

"* election.

And that's in addition to the new city council president rochester will also elect tonight.

Now regardless of who wins these seats... rochester mayor kim norton says all of these fresh faces will need to come together to manage significant challenges in the upcoming session.

Norton cites destination medical center projects... rapid transit implementation ... and re?

"*opening the city as some f the big?

"*ticket items that wil arrive on the desks of the next set of council members.

And by the way... they'll have to tackle all of those initiatives with a restrained budget... which will be cut by tens of millions of dollars as a result of coronavirus.

Still norton remains hopeful this election will produce a team of quality leaders who can face these challenges collaborativel "i hope the outcome of the election will produce, and i'm sure it will, a board of people that care about this community deeply, that want to see the best outcomes for the community, and hopefully, with a willingness to work together as a board and as a city, and as a council."

Now i asked mayor norton if she wanted to throw her support behind any candidate in these final moments before the election... but she did not budge... and promised to work with whoever the people in each ward select... and is happy to do so.
