A week from today every students in grades five through 12 will receive new chrome books to keep at school and also take home.

However there are some steps that students and parents are required to take before they are able to pick up the new laptops.

"we have chromebooks that we use at school but they were not student issued chromebooks."

However, on november 12 and 13th the houston school staff is set to issue every student from grades five through 12 a new personal laptop "now they have the capability to participate from home, if gives us the capability with them, even without internet to be able to download things at school and take that home."

According to houston high principal john ellison this helps in cases when a student who is home due to being sick or if for any reason school is required to be dismissed during school hours.

However, before school staff can issue the chromebooks to students... "we have some videos put together that we are requiring parents to watch before they are able to check out the chromebooks."

Once checked out, the chrome book belongs to that one student "that student will keep that device and in the summer time they will turn that computer back in."

However according to ellison, school staff will return that same chrome book to the same student the following year, as long as they are a student within the school district ellison also said school staff will hand out the chromebook on the 12 and 13 of november in a curbside pick up fifth through 8th grade pick up is curbside at the middle school and all high school students will pick up curbside here at the high school you can go to our website to find out which grades are schedules for pick up and time at wtva.com reporting live in houston, erin wilson, wtva 9 news.
