The Kentucky supreme court rules Governor Andy Beshear's emergency regulations put in place during the coronavirus pandemic are legal.

The kentucky supreme court rules governor andy beshear's emergency regulations... put in place during the coronavirus pandemic..... are legal that's tonight's top story at six.

L3: top story white ky supreme court upholds governor's covid-19 rules the ruling... issued today by the state's high court... was unanimous.

In its decision.... the court found the governor properly used the powers granted to the executive branch under the state constitution to declare and emergency and put the emergency orders in place.

Republican attorney general daniel cameron represented the businesses fighting against the regulations.... saying the governor's actions were illegal and that the legislature and the public should have been able to give input.

But attorneys for the governor argued that the covid-19 emergency was no different than natural disasters or any other emergency that governor has the responsibility and legal authority to respond to immediately.

The decision means the orders the governor put into place will remain in effect... including the public mask mandate and limits on the number of people who can gather in one place.

Speaking after the ruling... governor beshear said today's decision will save lives.

This virus is everywhere in the commonwealth and we must all come together as team kentucky - no political games.

The state supreme court has said the actions that were taken were constitutional so now's the time.

We know what the law is.

It's clear so let's all be supportive of the things that protect one another.

However, it appears that the court's opinion provides further evidence of the great need to better define emergency powers granted by previous legislatures.
