Local doctors react to Gov. Holcomb's newest COVID-19 plan

News 18 turned to local health leaders to find out if they think the governor's new COVID-19 plan will be effective or not.

Announced the change in direction for the state.

News 18's anna darling turned to local doctors to see if they think the changes will be effective.

"it's getting worse" "we are seeing rising numbers basically everyday" as coronavirus cases surge across the state, governor eric holcomb announced a new plan of action to slow those numbers.

Orange county gatherings are limited to 50 people and indoor k-12 extracurricular's have a 25-percent capacity limit.

"two weeks ago it was typical for arnett hospital to have 10 or 12 patients with covid19 in the hospital.

Today that number is nearly 50" tippecanoe county is one of 78 orange counties in the state.

"i'm hopeful that there will be some improved control from this.

I don't think it's going to be enough ultimately and i look forward to really good compliance with it."

For red counties, gatherings are limited to 25 people.

And k-12 indoor events are limited to participants, staff and families.

Vincent williamsport hospital.

"i think it's very appropriate to be assessing the covid situation county by county" fountain and warren counties are two of nine red counties in the state.

Dr. byers says giving up spectator attendance at high school basketball games is a necessary sacrifice right now.

"this is where pandemic prevention gets hard.

We have to give up the things that we want and the things that we love and we have to do that to protect the people we love."

Much of this will come down to people making the choice to take covid precautions seriously.

"we all play a role.

It's our personal decisions.

Policy helps reinforces those personal decisions.

" "this is a preventable problem.

We know how to stop it we know how to slow it down, it's just a matter of our choice to do so."

Anna darling news 18 as we told you on news 18 at five and six, social gatherings iblue counties will be limited to 250 people, and yellow counties will be limited to 100 people.

The changes go into effect on sunday.
