As the school system adjusts to rising Covid-19 cases, they are also changing the rules about student quarantining.

County, forcing officials to take more precautions.

As the virus continues to spread, everything else around us continues to change.

Particularly in our schools.

Hamilton county schools has just announced they are in the transition area between phase 2 and phase 3 of thier phase tracker - which will change post thanksgiving back to school plans.

News 12's winston reed has our story.

Hamilton county is seeing an increase in positive coronavirus cases and hospitals are treating more covid patients.

Hamilton county schools are continuing in class sessions after thanksgiving break but the quarantine process has been updated.

If a student is considered a close contact during contract tracing, parents will be sent a letter that includes a release of quarantine date.

The child is then required to avoid public areas for 14 days.

According to the covid-19 task force, this latest health response is a result of social gatherings.

"i think people are legitimately tired of isolation.

They want to see their friends and they want to socialize but those very gatherings are the source of much of the growth of covid in our community."

Rae bond wants safety precautions to be a priority as families decide how to spend the holidays.

"now is the time for us to step up our personal protective measures, especially as the thanksgiving holiday approaches.

We can't be complacent while waiting for a vaccine to become widely available."

The covid 19 task force and the health department did not discuss any potential shut downs in the county.

The last day of the current mask mandate is november 22nd.
