New book by Oroville author helps children understand wildfire

Gail D'Arcy is a Butte County author who wrote the book "Polly Pinecone."

From the camp fire were especially difficult for children.

As action news now reporter amy lanski shows us, an oroville women has written a book about it... to help them cope: amy standup: "i met with author gail d'arcy today who explained to me why writing this book was so important to her."

Gail d'arcy "i have a series of children books, stanley starfish, here comes the star."

Gail d'arcy explained what prompted her to do this was from working with students before.

Gail: "i used to read my stories to second graders that is where i was stuck.

Second and third graders.

The teacher there suggested when i finished the stories they let the students write what happened to stanley next."

D'arcy chose a pine cone for a specific reason.

"pine cones don't quit, i mean i still have some for years and years that i break out for christmas."

Amy: d'arcy says the purpose of the book isn't to make a profit, but to help kids in paradise."

Gail: "my idea wasn't to make money, but i have put a considerable amount of money into this, so i would love to get that back, but i wanted to give the kids who were traumatized by the fire in paradise an opportunity to express themselves and provide some healing."

Amy: "d' arcy says she plans to reach out to paradise unified school district about getting her book out to the schools.
