"here's a live look at grants pass from taprock grill.

It's and welcome back to news.

Watch 12 this morning, we're going to be joined by providence as chris and filer.

So obviously we're still in this ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Is it masking the way to go?

Masking is absolutely the way to go.

I know that we have restrictions now, masking social iso isolation and washing your hands.

But masking, i want to kind of touch on that because i think a lot of people are forgetting.

That masking really is effective, not only for transmitting the disease, but also protecting yourself from the diseases.

A lot of new research out there that shows that masking is actually protecting the where.

So you see the, um, came out with some research that said that.

You actually decrease your risk of transmitting the disease with disease with a surgical mask by 65%, but you also decrease your risk to the ware by 65% as well.

So, um, ucf came out with an article kind of early in the pandemic back in july, 2020, and they were looking at the cruise ships.

Remember when those, the pandemic kind of broke out on the cruise ships and at the beginning there was a cruise ship.

That they didn't put any mask on after the first case, if they didn't have any masks on any of the people, they didn't really know what was going on.

Um, i think it was the diamond princess cruise and they found that 20, all the people that got infected 20 20% were asymptomatic.

So that's a really low number.

So a more recent cruise came out and they found that all the passengers after the first case was done, they put on surgical masks.

Of the, uh, of all the, the users, they're all the passengers.

And they put n 90 fives on all this stuff, and they found that there was 217 people on there, 128 tested positive.

So a huge amount of people tested positive.

81% were asymptomatic.

Well, though, they were positive.

They didn't have any of the symptoms. so this is a big thing.

They're finding that the countries that are adopting, wearing the mask and doing a population level masking are seeing about a 40 to 45% rate of asymptomatic or mild or infections.

So although wearing a mask is not completely a hundred percent protecting you from getting the disease.

They're finding that it is protecting you from, from getting, um, uh, uh, a worst form of the disease.

And from getting any symptoms. so you may now just be a carrier and you're what they call a symptomatic.

They're finding that, um, they believe that their model of wearing mask and population masking was the most effective way to reduce the spread, but then also reduce, um, the disease and how it was affecting people.

So.

And i'll, and we'll say just with masks, they looked at when, you know, when you talk with people who wear masks, speech generates about 10 times more aerosols than just breathing.

So it's why
