5 decatur police officers were also recognized for their acts of extraordinary service to keep the community safe.

The awards were based on 3 events.

Officer jonathan espino received a life-saving honor after bringing a woman back to life after she had a heart attack.

He also recieved an award for heroism along with officer jacob bentley and officer todd mc-rae.

The officers helped a person inside a home during an active shooter situation.

Officers darius carr and walter segars received a life saving award.

That's for catching an escaped prisoner near the decatur general hospital.

Here you can see officer carr holding the suspect.

He was able to catch him after he jumped off the roof!

The two officers were then able to pull him back to safety.

Officer carr says the awards weren't necessary as it was all part of the job.

"it's not a whole lot to say, it wasn't expected, we're gonna do things regardless of have recognition or not."

All officers were honored by the sons
