Dr. Dobbs met with other doctor's in Jackson at the weekly coronavirus conversation Zoom meeting to give his thoughts about the pandemic.

Leaders believe the pandemic is going to get worse before it gets better.

That's the message mississippi's doctors got this afternoon from the state health officer.

W-t-v-a's rhea thornton listened in on the conversation and shares with us what medical professionals want you to do.

Hose who work here at o-c-h regional medical center in starkville are like health care workers across the state.

They see what the virus is doing to fellow mississippians and they would likely echo what state health officer doctor thomas dobbs said to the mississippi state medical association.

Thomas dobbs - mississippi state health officer: "we're asking each person to take the responsibility to take care of your family and yourself.

That's the only thing that's going to work right now."

Dobbs gave his take on the virus during his weekly virtual discussion with the doctor's group.

It came on the same day the state reported nearly 25 hundred new coronavirus case a new one day record.

And he added those numbers will continue to climb if people don't do their part during the holidays.

Thomas dobbs - mississippi state health officer: "we're not asking for a kidney.

We're asking for a nice family dinner at home and a meal instead of a big party.

That's not a big ask when you're going to save lives."

But it could be a big deal if more people follow his advice.

That's because hospitals across mississippi are running out of i-c-u beds with more people needing treatment for the coronavirus.

People who do their part to curb the spread of the virus can ease the strain on those hospitals.

Thomas dobbs - mississippi state health officer: "what we want to do is we want to carry as many people across the finish line as we can and we need everybody to help us."
