Class 5A: West Point vs. West Jones

West Point loses its bid at 5 straight championships to West Jones.

Just about an hour ago, the west jones mustangs shocked the state of mississippi and halted west point's bid for a 5th straight state title.

Here's how it went down.

There's coach chris chambliss was going for its fifth straight state championship and a state record 12th overall program title, but west jones didn't make it easy early on.

The mustangs launched out to a 20 to 7 lead behind a steady rushing and passing attack, but right before the half, west point got a big break, tyun robinson stripped kentrel pruitt, kahnen daniels scoops it and he had nothing but green in front of him, took it all the way to the house, giving west point life heading into the 2nd half.

2nd half, the two teams traded touchdowns, this rushing touchdown by kentrel pruitt put the mustangs up 33 to 27 at the beginning of the 4th.

West point had a chance to tie or take the lead but on fourth down corbin kelly's deep ball to tre ryland is just beyond his grasp and that was the last chance for the green wave.

The mustangs win its first state championship in program history, number 12 for west point will have to wait, but something tells me they will be back soon.

Louisville, the only north team to go back home with hardware, but its an achievement to just get to this moment, especially in a year like 2020.
