About 15 healthcare workers at "cullman regional medical center" received the vaccine for the coronavirus today!

Waay 31's grace campbell joins us live in cullman... she learned how the hospital prepared for this.

The hospitals chief medical officer said they currently have four staff members that can administer the vaccine.

Today was a soft opening for the vaccine clinic so they can train more staff members to work the clinic.

Hospital workers let the vaccine defrost overnight so they could give the vaccine today.

Employees can schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine.

When they get the vaccine is based on an individuals risk factor.

The chief medical officer expects the vaccine clinic to administer over 100 covid vaccines a day once it is officially up and running.

"when we vaccinate people, we are not vaccinating the entire unit at the same time.

We're not going to vaccinate every critical care nurse on the same day, or every hospitalist on the same day.

So, we are, we are trying to level that out to minimize the impact."

The hospital knows they will get a second dose for the people vaccinated on the first round, but they don't know when they'll receive more doses for additional staff members to get vaccinated.
