Elementary Students can now sit three feet apart+

Ago.

The c-d-c is relaxing guidelines for students and allowing for them to actually sit closer in the classroom.

Waay-31s alexis scott learned why this change is happening and what this means for students and teachers here locally.

Alexis... on friday...the c-d-c updated their guidelines -- allowing students to sit 3-feet apart instead of the previously reccomended 6-feet.

This guidance comes after a study examining some schools that have been doing less than 6-feet and the spread of coronavirus was still low.

Under the revised guidelines, schools can also do away with the plastic shields and barriers between desks.

If there is a high covid transmission rate in any given area... that school should maintain 6-feet.

But -- for elementary school students... they can sit 3-feet apart no matter what... as long as masks are still worn.

And lastly..

The c-d-c still advises for 6-feet distance in common areas inside the school and for both teachers and students to continue the "correct use of masks."

The director of the c-d-c said this change is a big factor in social behaviors and mental health with students and teachers alike.
