5pm Final Day of KY General Assembly 03.30.2021

IT'S NO SURPRISE...POLICE REFORM AND HANDLING OF NO-KNOCK WARRANTS MADE IT THROUGH THE CHAMBERS OF THE KENTUCKY STATE HOUSE.

General assembly.

Both chambers are still working on last minute legislation as we speak... including a continued conversation within the impeachment committee..

The house and senate however gave final approval of a long awaited no-knock warrant bill relating to the death of breonna taylor..

Abc 36's monica harkins covers the floor fight in our top story at 5.

It's no surprise...police reform and handling of no-knock warrants made it through the chambers of the kentucky state house.

Both sides of the aisle standing up and admitting what happened to breonna taylor is a tragedy and shouldn't have occurred.

As with other subjects....kentucky democrats and republicans had different ideas on how to best make change.

Republican senate president robert stivers of manchester proposed...senate bill four..

Which would limit no knock warrants in kentucky...not abolish them.

It would require no-knock warrants to only be used for violent crimes...it would put time limits on the warrant so one couldn't happen in the dead of night...like in taylor's case...and it would require body cameras be worn...and on...during the search warrant.

Tuesday in the house...while it had bi-partisian support..unsurping sly brought passionate debate.

One from representative chris fugate a former state trooper...talked about the protests and about how society has gone astray ever since talking about god and the bible became taboo..

Here's some of the rebuttal from representative pamela stevenson.

"rep.

Pamela stevenson: well let me tell you this, things were bad in this country for black folk long before 1962.

You can't tell me that we had a good life.

And yes i'm upset...i have to teach my son how to drive while black..and you want to tell me about putting god back in school, well put christ back in christians."

Also keep in mind..this is not the "justice for breonna taylor" bill that representative attica scott of louisville wrote.... she did however vote yes on this version saying it is not enough but will have to do.

L3 monica: top story white the bill now it will head to the governor's desk.
