Florida Governor Sues FDA , Over Canadian Drug Importation Program.

Politico reports that Gov.

Ron DeSantis made the announcement on Aug.

31.

The lawsuit alleges that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has stalled Florida's attempts to import prescription drugs from Canada for nearly two years.

Florida was the first state in the U.S. to apply for the program.

The state seeks to be able to get cheaper prescription drugs from the country's neighbors up north to treat a variety of illnesses.

.

Politico reports Florida residents would save about $150 million in prescription costs.

.

In 2021, President Biden issued an executive order directing the FDA to get the program going.

DeSantis had hoped Biden's support would get the FDA to approve Flordia's application, but nothing ever happened.

I didn’t anticipate getting to this point where even the administration says they support it and then we just toil for months and months, Gov.

Ron DeSantis, via statement.

The FDA said it would provide states with more information, which it never did, according to Florida officials.

This has been sitting on someone’s desk for 600 days.

This is not what government is supposed to do.
