Tourists stranded at Machu Picchu amid Peru unrest

Tourists stranded in the small town serving Machu Picchu, the Inca jewel of Peru's travel industry, wait in line to sign up for evacuation as nationwide anti-government protests continue to rock the South American country.

At least 44 people are said to have been killed in clashes between protesters and Peruvian police as calls intensify for President Dina Boluarte to step down.

The protests are now in their second month, having been triggered by the ousting and arrest of former president Pedro Castillo in early December.
