South Africa - Johannesburg - 27 January 2023 - On the occasion of its 9th anniversary the members of the 67 Blankets for Mandela and other stakeholders gathered at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Houghton to celebrate this milestone.
Schools like Jeppe Girls High, Norwood primary, entertainers like PJ Powers, retired deputy chief Dikgang Moseneke, Cheryl Carolus, Johannes Radebe (Strictly Come Dancing), business leaders and other volunteers known as Knitwits joined in the celebrations as the 2023 season of knitting blankets and scarves for the less fortunate is launched by the handing out of wool.
67 Blankets now holds 4 Guinness records including the longest scarf of over 27 km's, representing each of the years of Madiba's incarceration, and the biggest blanket covering 2 rugby fields.
They have made over 120k blankets stitch by stitch.
