New CUPRA Formentor from success story to icon

AutoMotions

The new CUPRA Formentor builds on the proportions and design details that have made the Crossover SUV such a huge success. The vehicle’s aesthetic and overall package that helped it win the Red Dot Award for Product Design 2021 have been accentuated and amplified, delivering an emotional, striking, and sporty visual. The new CUPRA Formentor introduces the new CUPRA design language DNA, with the shark-nose front end, triangular matrix LED headlights and big, bold lower mouth. The front of the new CUPRA Formentor is strong and determined, integrating the CUPRA logo directly on to the bonnet above the large front grille and bookmarked by the optional matrix LED front headlights that incorporate the signature design – three illuminated triangles framed within a triangle. The front-end design adds the strength of expression and a sense of width while thin air-intake slots below the shark nose add technicality and sophistication. The grille mesh is open to deliver both form and function, a necessity in a performance car. As the eye shifts to the side design details, the new CUPRA Formentor’s athletic proportions and character becomes even more evident. Its dynamic, well-balanced volume sits on the proportionally sized wheels – there are a range of eight different alloy wheels between 18 and 19’’.

Vespa World days - Day 1

AutoMotions

With Pontedera already teeming with thousands of Vespisti from all over Europe as well as further afield, from countries such as the USA, Canada, China, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Kuwait, Australia, Colombia, Japan and Argentina, the 2024 edition of the Vespa World Days event officially started – the annual gathering that brings together national Vespa Clubs from all over the world. This year, it is being held in the birthplace of the Vespa, in the town where this iconic vehicle has been produced non-stop since 1946. This edition of the event is also particularly special as it celebrates 140 years of Piaggio: the company was founded in 1884. The inauguration of the Vespa Village marks the beginning of this huge party for the Vespa fans who have come in their droves from all corners of the world: from today until Sunday 21st April, the Village area – located in Piazza del Mercato in Pontedera – will be brought to life with events and shows, with several exhibition stands available to visit. This includes the official Vespa stand, where the entire range will be on display, plus merchandise available to buy; elsewhere, a food & beverage area will also give Vespisti and visitors to the event the perfect opportunity to get together, celebrating the spirit of the Vespa clubs. On the occasion of the kick-off of the Vespa World Days 2024, a Vespa GTS 300 was presented to the State Police in the town: this special Vespa model will join the forces of law and order as they open the spectacular parade on Saturday 20th April, which will make its way through the most beautiful places in Valdera. It promises to be an incredible procession stretching more than 10 kilometres in length: in addition to the eight thousand Vespas that are officially registered for the event, thousands more are expected to join, many already on their way to Tuscany. The State Police Vespa will subsequently be displayed at the State Police Car Museum in Rome.

The new Porsche Macan Turbo Exterior Design in Racing Green

AutoMotions

It’s all down to this line, a mere stroke on paper. And yet it marks a a new beginning. The coupé-like roofline of the Macan and the striking rear—with its shape so typical of Porsche—evoke the tight, unmistakable flyline of the 911. But this time, it’s not just a reminder of the Porsche icon. Rather, the shape, including the rear spoiler, is a groundbreaking innovation in the all-electric SUV segment. “The active aerodynamic elements all contribute significantly to the range,” says aerodynamics specialist Thomas Wiegand. “We have a rear spoiler that raises automatically, active cooling flaps at the front air intakes, and flexible covers on the underbody.” Located in the same building as the Style Porsche design department, the Weissach wind tunnel gives form and shape to the streamlining of the newly developed Macan. It’s the first Porsche based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) created in collaboration with Audi. This platform not only benefits from development synergies, but is also highly flexible, enabling Porsche to implement its own technical and brand-specific objectives. Full electrification of the popular model line is an important milestone on the path to ensuring that more than 80 percent of the new cars are fully electrified in 2030—depending on the demand of customers and the development of electromobility in the respective regions of the world.

The new Kia Picanto Exterior Design

AutoMotions

Kia has announced the prices and equipment details of the fundamentally revised Picanto. The Kia small car will be presented in the 2025 model year with a strikingly changed front and rear appearance, characterized by the new Kia design philosophy “Opposites United”, new exterior and interior colors, new high-tech elements from front collision warning with turning function and active blind spot assistants to LED Headlights and a reinforced body. Despite its compact external dimensions, the Picanto has a spacious, comfortable interior and up to 1,010 liters of storage space. This makes it also suitable for households that need a fully-fledged second car. The standard equipment includes, among other things, a navigation system including the Kia Connect online services and air conditioning. Mazda CX-5 Touring Petrol AWD in Eternal Blue Connect Screen

AutoMotions

Mazda’s iconic “World Car Design of the Year”-winning roadster has evolved over the years, yet always remained true to the Jinba Ittai philosophy of creating perfect harmony between driver and car. The MX-5, a timeless masterpiece – refined by Mazda’s craftsmen over four generations of customer feedback – celebrates its 35th birthday in 2024. With over 1.1 million units sold, the community of MX-5 enthusiasts continues to grow. With the 2024 MX-51 Mazda further reinforces the Jinba Ittai ethos by introducing DSC-Track, a new Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) mode optimised for circuit driving, and a newly developed Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential (Asymmetric LSD). DSC-Track prioritises driver safety by implementing over-steer control in hazardous spins that the driver is unable to correct. DSC-Track allows the driver to remain in control until the very last second, only then it will intervene. The Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential (Asymmetric LSD) stabilises vehicle turn-in behaviour. In particular, bolstering the slip-limiting force during deceleration improves stability when braking into a turn, where reduced rear wheel ground load leads to vehicle instability. Optimizing slip limiting force and preload specifically for the MX-5's engine, suspension, and tyre characteristics results in smoother and more linear turning performance. Turning stability has thus been enhanced to make manoeuvring easier in urban areas, as well as on winding roads. The 2024 Mazda MX-5 features advanced LED headlights that now seamlessly combine with the daytime running lights. Furthermore, the rear lights have undergone subtle revisions, and LEDs are now used also on the turn signals. The exterior changes are complete with a new paint option, """"Aero Grey Metallic"""", which replaces “Platinum Quartz”, and 16- and 17-inch wheel designs. Enhancements for 2024 also extend to the interior, which gains a redesigned 8.8-inch centre display with Android Auto™ and Apple Car Play® running wirelessly, a frameless rear-mirror and a suede-like seat material called Leganu®.

Audi Q6L e-tron Design in Studio

AutoMotions

The electrically powered car will be shown as an exterior model at the spring motor show in the Chinese capital; the series version will then make its public debut in the fourth quarter of 2024. Like other PPE models for the Chinese market, the Audi Q6L e-tron will be locally produced in a new factory in Changchun. The first deliveries to customers will take place in 2025. The Audi Q6L e-tron is defined by impressive driving and charging performance, excellent efficiency, and an even greater range than the global model. The wheelbase, longer by 105 millimeters, also allows the installation of a larger battery. With it, CLTC ranges of more than 700 kilometers will be possible. The letter “L” in the name signals the long wheelbase, which is also becoming the hallmark of outstanding long-distance capability. Audi has been building “L” models with an extended wheelbase for the Chinese market for decades. The A6L and A4L are the best-known large-volume versions, alongside the Q5L, A8L, and A8L Horch. Now, Audi is adding the L model to the Q6 e-tron family - providing even more space, comfort, and everyday usability. Together with the new interior design philosophy, the Q6L e-tron is creating a very exclusive and generous space for passengers in the market. The Audi Q6L e-tron epitomizes Audi’s distinctive SUV design with consistently further developed e-tron-specific design language. The Audi Q6L e-tron differs from the global version, and this becomes apparent from the start. Above all, the redesigned front end, with an evolution of the Audi brand face, sets its own accents for the China-specific version.

Audi Q8 TFSI e quattro – Plug-in hybrid technology – Animation

AutoMotions

This technical animation shows the function of the plug-in hybrid drive of the new Audi Q8 TFSI e quattro. At the heart of the plug-in hybrid is a three-liter six-cylinder Otto engine with 250 kW (340 PS) of output, a compact electric motor (PSM) with a maximum output of 130 kW and 460 Nm of torque, and a new, more powerful, liquid-cooled lithium battery located under the floor of the trunk.

Lamborghini Urus SE Powertrain Preview

AutoMotions

The Urus SE offers an unparalleled driving experience also thanks to the plug-in hybrid system, which helps to improve the vehicle’s performance and dynamics on any surface and in any condition: more torque and power at any rpm is provided by way of innovative technical solutions such as the introduction of the electric torque vectoring system between the two axles, and the electronic rear differential. The twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine has been re-engineered to work in optimal synergy with the electric powertrain. It develops 620 CV of power (456 kW) and 800 Nm of driving torque; the combustion unit is combined with an electric powertrain delivering 192 CV (141 kW) and 483 Nm of torque. In delivering maximum output the main focus has been on the calibration strategy between ICE and e-motor, reaching a total output of 800 CV to ensure an optimal power curve in every driving mode and on every surface. A 25.9-kWh lithium-ion battery is situated below the load floor and above the electronically-controlled rear differential. The permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor located inside the 8-speed automatic transmission can act as a boost for the V8 combustion engine but also as a traction element, making the Urus SE a 100% electric 4WD vehicle capable of traveling more than 60 km in EV mode. Debuting on the Urus SE is the new centrally-located longitudinal electric torque vectoring system with an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch, which distributes driving torque variably and continuously between the front and rear axles. The transfer case works in synergy with the new electronic limited-slip differential installed on the rear axle, giving the vehicle “on demand” oversteering to convey the feel of a purebred super sports car.

Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology, EDITION ONE Exterior Design

AutoMotions

With the all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology, the brand with the three-pointed star presents the first fully electric variant of its off-road icon. It symbolises the fusion of tradition and progress like no other. The all-new electric G-Class remains true to the model’s character, retaining its angular silhouette including all iconic elements. Like the conventionally powered variants, its body is built on a ladder frame. The development team has modified and reinforced this to integrate the electric drive. Also retained is the combination of independent front suspension with double wishbones and newly developed rigid rear axle. The high-voltage lithium-ion battery integrated into the ladder frame ensures a low centre of gravity. With its usable capacity of 116 kWh, it provides sufficient energy for ranges of up to 473 kilometres according to WLTP. The four individually controlled electric motors located near the wheels develop a maximum total output of 432 kW. Together with the selectable LOW RANGE off-road gear reduction, they enable unique driving characteristics and exclusive functions. This allows G-TURN to turn the vehicle almost on the spot on loose or unpaved surfaces. The G-STEERING function can deliver a significantly smaller turning circle when driving off-road. The three-speed intelligent off-road crawl function is like cruise control for off-roading – maintaining optimum propulsion while the driver focuses on navigating the terrain. Like the tried-and-tested variants, the all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology has a gradeability of up to 100% on suitable surfaces. The vehicle remains stable on sideways slopes of up to 35 degrees. With a maximum fording depth of 850 millimetres, the electric G‑Class outperforms its conventionally powered counterparts by 150 millimetres. The LOW RANGE off-road gearing increases propulsion with a special reduction ratio. The all-new model generates the function of conventional differential locks virtually using intelligent torque vectoring. G-ROAR brings a unique sound experience to the all-new electric G-Class. In addition to a characteristic, G-Class-specific driving sound, it includes one “aura” sound and a variety of “event” sounds.
