Government panel seeks carbon tax rejig to discourage coal imports

An inter-ministerial panel has recommended raising the carbon tax on superior imported coal and reducing it on lower quality domestic coal to level the field for consumers. The panel also suggested linking the GST compensation cess on coal to its heating quality.
