Stock market today: Asian shares shrug off Wall St blues as China leaves lending rate unchanged

Markets in Asia apart from Shanghai’s are broadly higher, shrugging off the blues on Wall Street after big technology stocks logged their worst week since the COVID crash in 2020. Oil prices fell while U.S. futures advanced. Shares fell in Shanghai after China's central bank left its 1 and 5-year lending rates unchanged. On Friday, the S&P 500 fell 0.9% to close out its third straight losing week. The Nasdaq composite tumbled 2%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which has less of an emphasis on tech, was an outlier and rose 0.6%. The market’s worst performers included several stocks that had been its biggest stars. Super Micro Computer lost more than a fifth of its value.
