SC gives PIL-lawyer Bhushan a lesson in public interest; terms a PIL argued by him as personal interest plea

Veteran advocate Prashant Bhushan, who argued several important public interest litigations resulting in landmark decisions from constitutional courts, on Thursday was called out by the Supreme Court for arguing a businessman’s personal case camouflaging it as a PIL.The ‘PIL’ was filed by K M Cherian, who had set up Frontier Lifeline, a company which has gone into liquidation. He had lost a challenge to the liquidation process against the company before the National Company law Tribunal and appellate tribunal NCLAT. His petitions against State Bank of India in a related issue was also ‘dismissed as withdrawn’ by the SC.
