Jumbo find: Asian elephants ritually bury their calves, finds Bengal study

A study conducted in north Bengal has documented the burial of prematurely deceased Asian elephant calves, a behavior previously only seen in African elephants. The calves were buried in irrigation trenches in tea gardens, with their legs upright and the head, trunk, and dorsal regions fully buried.
