Iraqi protester assassinated in Baghdad

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, May. 24 a protester was assassinated in a demonstration in Iraq�s capital Baghdad against the impunity for those who started lethal assaults on anti-administration demonstrators and activists in the past months. Thousands of demonstrators got together on three key squares in the capital, comprising the al-Tahrir Square in downtown Baghdad, said an Interior Ministry source to Xinhua. A lot of demonstrators held the country�s flags and pictures of the demonstrators who were assassinated earlier in anti-corruption protests organized since October 2019. A report released by the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) said that Iraq�s security forces detained four persons who attempted to break into the protest close to the al-Tahrir Square.
