Paper Trail is the opposite of the big budget games that most people are looking for nowadays. It does not have shiny next gen graphics, rather an endearing hand drawn style. It has no flashy QTEs, but rather clever and innovative puzzles. It does not benefit from a thrilling marketing budget, but it has plenty of soul. But is it a game worthy of your time? The basic idea of Paper Trail is not new by any means: it challenges players to solve puzzles. But the way these puzzles are built is fiendishly clever and invigoratingly fresh. It combines the basics of origami, with platforming and a bit of traversal based logical challenges. All these for the base mechanics, that are presented in a short tutorial along with the controls. It may seem simple and easy at the beginning, but the difficulty level scales up pretty quickly, challenging the players’ neurons and the spirit of observation.
